Baska

Baska is situated on the south-west of the island Krk. Here is the biggest and most beautiful beach on this part of Adriatic called Vela Plaza, the Big Beach, right in the centre of town, backed by bars, restaurants, pizzerias, cafés, hotels, private apartments and other tourist faculties. Since 1999, the European Blue Flag has flown on Baska's Big Beach and has become a trademark of Baska, as proof of the high quality of beach standards. It  is a natural pebbly beach, 1800 m long, which can take several thousand swimmers. It’s particularly suitable for children and non-swimmers


Baska has over 2500 hours of sun in a year. In the summer, sea temperature can rise to 25 C, and the swimming season lasts from May to October. Baska was the largest town on the island until 1910. Prehistoric earthworks around Baska and archaeological remains bear witness to settlements here in early times. City is the oldest bathing area on the island of Krk. First tourists arrive in 1908. In Jurandvor is church of St. Lucy; inside the church was the oldest dated written example of Croatian language-Bascanska ploca (Baska tablet). The Baska Tablet is a national monument, significant for the Croatian nation. It is a glagolitic inscription, a document consisting of 13 lines carved in stone. The text documents a donation of the Croatian king Zvonimir (1075-1089) to the church of St.Lucy in Jurandvor, where the Baska Tablet was found inserted in the church floor. The municipality of Baska has around 1500 inhabitants. The municipality has a surface area of 62 km2.

There are good sports facilities in Baska. At the Zablace Sports Centre there is football field, table tennis, tennis and mini-golf. For lovers of the sea, the town provides ideal conditions for underwater activities, as well as for water skiing, windsurfing, rides on banana lifts. On main beach is also Aqua Gun - entertainment center. Water slide with 3 runs, games, restaurant.
