Malinska with population about 1000 people is situated in a wooded bay on the western side of the island of Krk. With another twenty surrounding villages belongs to a territory known as Dubasnica. The Dubasnica bay has a wealth of both large and small coves and thanks to its geographical position; the area is protected against cold winds, with little rain and about 260 sunny days per year. The climate is mild, Mediterranean.
First time Malinska mentioned in 15. century when was bulilt first mill (croatian Mlin) after whom got name Malinska. Development of the city begun in18. Century with building of the port.
For years, the Blue flag, an international award, flutters over Rupa beach as a recognition of its quality and its excellent beach facilities. Mostly beaches are pebble and concrete. Also there is sandy beach suitable for childen near former hotel complex Haludovo.
There are 50 kilometers of walking paths in the Malinska area along which one can see a number of sites such as the monastery in Porat or the old cemetery. Most of the footpaths are also suitable for cycling. For those looking for challenges, a number of cycling races are organized during the year.
