For those arriving on Krk by land, this is the first town on the island situated just after Krk brdige. Omisalj is with town Krk oldest settlement on the island, it is situated on the clif 90 meters above sea level. Population of the city is about 2000 people.
City has been inhabited since ancient times, the Romans founded a large town called Fulfinum. In the bay of Sepen by Omisalj, in the I. century A.D., a new roman town Fulfinum was built for the needs of the veterans of the Flavian emperors. The town had all the facilities needed for life in the antiquity: a forum with the Capitol and the basilica, port facilities with the commercial quarter, thermae, suburban communication lines with cemeteries and the water supply system. With the fall of the antique civilisation, Fulfinum was probably one of its first victims; envisaged as a town of high civil accomplishments, open and fragile, it was sensitive to the turmoils of life in the late antiquity and therefore it fell together with the civilisation that had created it.
The beaches are pebbly, rocky and sandy, and long and varied Omisalj coastline to each visitor guarantee a good summer fun. There are many hidden coves, ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Main beach in Omisalj i called Pesja – Omisalj’s most famous beach with the Blue flag waving there since 2004. It is situated at the end of the gentle cove, in the shade of pine trees and overlooking the Omisalj Bay.
