HISTORY
Krk is administrative and cultural center of the island. It
is also the biggest town on island with almost 3000 years
old history.
Old city is surrounded with ancient walls completely preserved.
A one-time Roman municipality and centre of the Frankopans,
the dukes of the Krk. Walking around city you will see complex
of the Cathedral from 5 th century and Kamplin square with
its Frankopan castle and the Square Tower.
Every summer in this square is held Krk Cultural Festival
with concerts of classical music, guest theatres, jazz festivals.
Once, Frankopan castle was important fortification
object.
Krk cathedral together with castle are the most famous sights
of the city.
Cathedral is built in V th century. Churches
St. Margaret and St Quirinus are included into complex of
cathedral.
The main city square is called Vela Placa
and all events are often situated there. On this square is
situated town hall from the 15 th century.
