Vrbnik is typical old Mediterranean city situated on the 48 meters high cliff with population about 1000 people. First time mentioned in 12 th century. Vrbnik is famous spiritual center with many churches inside city walls. Town is characterized by narrow streets, so it is no wonder that the narrowest street in the world is situated precisely in Vrbnik. Besides buildings (parish church and Chapel of Saint John the Baptist) history of Vrbnik is noted in old glagolitic scripts and documents situated in parish church and library Vitezic with more than 10 000 books.
Through many small restaurants you have pleasure to taste traditional local dishes and wine. Almost every restaurant has own wine cellar. Before arrival in city you will notice many wine yards in this part of the island. Vrbnička zlahtina is a quality dry white wine produced from an autochthonous variety, the white zlahtina. This variety is specific as it is only grown vineyards in Krk and more precisely in the fields of Vrbnik Apart from the community of Vrbnik. Today, Vrbnik and Zlahtina are synonymous as this is the only place they are cultivated. In 2006, the agricultural community of Vrbnik carried out an experiment by putting sparkling wine bottles (Valomet) into steel-barred chests in the sea, at a depth of 30 metres. In fact, at that depth a temperature of 12 Celsius degrees is constant which is ideal for sparkling wine fermentation. The ideal location is to be found around half a mile from the coast of Vrbnik.
The results exceeded expectations; the sparkling wine from the sea was much better than that created in the cellar.
The public beach (pebble) is located in the small bay "Zgribnica". the public beach of Vrbnik is awarded with the "blue flag".
Not far from Vrbnik (about 7 km) is village Risika with sandy beach "Sveti Marak".
